Deer Lodge, Montana Ghost Tales I am a long time resident of Deer Lodge, I know the town well. The state penitentiary was once located here, more or less in the center of town. A new prison was built several miles out of town several years ago, but the old facility remains here. It is a rather large complex, and it is now a museum. Being a resident of Deer Lodge, I have visited the museum a number of times. There is now a vintage car collection housed in the complex. The prison has some very sad and violent history, including riots and a number of executions over the years. People were killed in the riots. There are strange and frightening presences in several parts of the old prison. One of the most frightening is in a part of the prison called ''The Hole''. It was used for solitary confinement, and severe punishment. While in use, it was almost totally dark, cold, and with no bedding- just a hard floor. I will probably visit parts of the prison again, but I will never again go near ''The Hole''. The last time I went there, at the end of the summer, it was a hot day,       but it was freezing cold in ''The Hole''. I felt very uncomfortable and every nerve in my body was on edge. I just turned, and decided to leave immediately. While stepping up the stairs that lead out of ''The Hole'', I could feel an unseen force shoving me toward the corridor that leads away. The force was so great that I stumbled and fell on the steps.   The force of this thing shoved me toward the floor, and I could hear a faint, very low and terrifying voice say ''Get out now, and stay out.'' There was no one else nearby to say such a thing, and when the pressure was finally released from back, I scrambled to my feet, and hurried away. I couldn't breath easy until I was in my car on the way home. When I got home, I looked at my hands and legs. My chin, knees, elbows and hands were bruised from the ordeal, along with a bruise in the middle of my back where the pressure was. When I have to drive by the old prison, I still get chills. I will never, ever go near ''The Hole'' again. .
