On August 17, 1959, there was a large earthquake in this area, centered near Yellowstone Park. It was a 7.5 earthquake, and the quake cuased a huge landslide that killed 28 people. Part of the side of a mountain slid down, some of it crossed the river and slid partially up the side of the mountain accross the river. There were millions of tons of gravel, boulders and earth involved in the slide. That night, a new lake was

created from the huge dam that crossed the river. It's called Quake Lake. Burried under the slide is the bodies of the paople who were killed

that night. Most were in a campground that was along the Madison River. Quite often, while going through thia part of the valley, late a night, coming back from hunring trips, fishing trips, etc, we can still see what we call orbs, strange, yellowish and orange glowing orbs floating around. We have to stop the truck, get out and be quiet to see them. they are about the size of beach balls. They just float slowly a few feet
