Cavalier, North Dakota Ghost Tales Place: Svold North Dakota Year: 1929 to present A gentleman from Canada was a frequent visitor of a neighbor of mine, Once he came to visit for a week or so which was not unusual in the early years because travel was not as frequent as it is today. The gentleman was there at the time of the great stock market fall, he was fairly wealthy and heavily vested into the stock market. After he heard the news of his recent great loss he told my neighbor that he wanted to go for a walk and he dissapeared and did not show up all evening. The people of the household started to worry about him as it was       getting dark and went to look for him. He was found swinging from the hay rope from the barn loft. The only way to get him down was to cut the rope. The gentleman fell to the ground and lay there several   hours with the rope around his neck until the authorities came the next day to recover the body. His ghost can still be seen on with the rope around his neck wandering the farmstead on many occasions. The farmstead is now standing empty, the family who lived there could not stay with the presence of the ghost as it wandered the farm singing forlorn Icelandic folk songs.Several years ago a young couple from Leyden parked in the driveway late one night and had to go to the bathroom. The gentleman stepped out behind his car and when he was walking back to his door he heard a sound from behind and quickly opened the door and got in. When they got home, he opened his car door only to find a short piece of hangmans rope stuck in his door jam.
