New Rockford, North Dakota Ghost Tales I was born and raised in New Rockford. I recall as a child my mother telling me of a family of five children playing on the frozen James river. The ice broke, the children drown. On foggy-cold nights it was said you could hear the children scream. I am sorry I do not remember the sur name. The original home the children lived in is still in the park on the north side of town. It is cement and pretty sturdy (north side of river). Anyway after hearing this story a friend of mine and I were down by the park (on the south side of the river). It was fall/winter. We were in the 7th grade, it was late..foggy ONLY US THERE. We could hear on the lake,screams at different tones, they seemed close, then far away. They were screams, not laughter, joy, giggling. It was NOT imagination. We ran so fast...later I had gone to the cemetary with my mom and found the childrens graves, all with the same death date, early spring. I plan on going home and taking pictures to add.
