Turtle Lake, North Dakota Ghost Tales This story is actually true, although there are no reported 'hauntings.' I am actually related to this family and the massacre can be found in my family heritage book locally.  The house obviously is no longer standing as the murders took place in 1920.  The sole survior has since passed away in her old age.  No ghost story here, just a tragedy. The farm is about two and half miles on the east side, within an old gravel pit or something. The house is now gone....I saw the house in the early 1980s. Not sure what happened to it... Anyone living in Turtle Lake knows the story of the Wolf family, German immigrants who were brutally murdered by an angry neighbor in 1920 or 1921. This is true.... If you don't believe me, go ask your great-grandmother. Yes, it really happened. And the graves of the dead family are just outside of town in the cemetery, but well covered by lilac bushes. .
