Belle Fourche, South Dakota Ghost Tales On July 6 2008 we were concluding a small get together in the beer garden at the Cowboy Bar in Belle Fourche, SD. With only 2 of us on the patio I looked over and asked who the old cowboy was standing in the corner. Cindy suspected I'd had too much to drink so I described an old cowboy dressed in a long brown duster, kerchief, and 1800's style cowboy hat. As her digital camera was laying on the table she decided to prove me wrong and quickly snapped a picture where I pointed. She gasped and showed me the picture of a siver sillouette of an old cowboy dressed as I described. She had immediately snapped a second picture which showed a white cloud-like swirl going out the door. These and other pictures are on display at the Cowboy Bar. If you listen to what the locals argue, this ghost loves terrifying folks who have the guts to interrupt the calm in Belle Fourche. The ghost of a man having half his head gone may often be seen gazing at the water by Belle Fourche Diversion Dam very late at night. A decapitated woman may be spotted often on a dark night drifting down on Crow Creek. Many local residents assert this ghost may be the soul of a resident who passed away here in Belle Fourche some decades ago. The ghost of an 11 feet tall colossal giant is every so often noticed hovering across Windy Flats at night. The ghost of a teen girl may occasionally be seen checking out Big Canyon in detail in the early morning hours. In any event, this is a horrible ghost that you don't want to meet in the early morning hours before sunrise.
