I lived in a home in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, for approximately six years. I never really believed in the paranormal and hauntings until I lived in this house. The home inspector stated the house was in excellent shape, and the electrical tested fine. It was a home built in the late 1960s and very well constructed. After a few months, my husband and I noticed a back bedroom light would turn on on its own when I would come home for lunch or after work. We did not give it much notice and thought it was a faulty lamp or something. Then I would start hearing what I thought was my husband's voice outside the upstairs bathroom door. I would open it and ask him to repeat what he said, and he would state he did not say anything. This became a regular occurrence. Then one weekend my daughter was home from college. The bathroom door was diagonally located across the hall from our bedroom, and our bedroom door was open. I could see her enter the bathroom and close the door. After a few seconds, she said, ''Dad, I'll be right out. '' And then, again said, ''Dad, I said I'll be right out. '' The weird thing was, no one was outside the bathroom door, and her dad was lying next to me in bed sound asleep. Obviously she was hearing his voice which validated my experiences.
One evening the shutter doors between the dining room and living room started slamming hard several times and startled my husband and me out of bed. There was absolutely nothing that could possibly contribute to those doors doing that by themselves. When we would be in the downstairs family room, we would constantly clearly hear footsteps upstairs in the kitchen and going down the hallway. The first few times it was startling, but after checking several times to see if anyone was upstairs and finding no one, we would simply ignore them. One day I was playing scrabble with my daughter at the dining room table, and while we were talking I thought I saw some scrabble squares move on their own and commented on it. My daughter laughed and said I was seeing things. Next thing we knew a group of scrabble squares flew out on their own. We both jumped up, and she said, ''I'm out of here. '' Another time when I went downstairs with a basket of laundry and was just reaching for the lamp to turn it on, the lamp went on by itself. At this point, I was so used to odd things happening around the house that my only reaction was to say ''thank you. ''
There were so many other instances that I could go on and on. Once I heard a little girl's voice from the back bedroom clearly state ''Mommy!'' Another time my husband felt someone sit next to him on the couch and said his name. Another time a sheet rose slowly up while my daughter and I were watching, and it just held out in midair about waist high before dropping back down (again no wind, no explanation). Again my daughter's only words, ''I'm out of here. '' When I showered the lights would go off, and I would periodically smell like something was decaying, and I would just say ''leave me alone. '' Then the lights would come back on, and the smell would go away. Was I frightened... Odd, but not really. However, I was often annoyed because I never felt like I could have complete privacy. My husband and I would periodically see shadows out of the corner of our eyes. I think if either one of us had seen an actual apparition, we would have been out of there so fast. That would definitely have been our breaking point. I am just glad whatever or whoever was there did not follow us to our new home. Our lives are completely normal again. I often wonder if the family before us or those who have moved in since then have had similar occurrences at this home. Just want them to know... They are not alone.

The Banbury Place in Eau Claire, WI is haunted by multiple spirits. The first of the buildings were built in the late 1800s; in 1924 there was a fire in the bicycle tire plant and an explosion a few months later.
