draped to either side of her faceless head floated from off her shoulders. The only other movement was the trim off the bottom of her dress. Like a thin silk sheet, the edges of the ghostly cloth waved rhythmically but not by wind.
This time a cold shutter hit me as never before. This was a ghost. Something bad had happened. I worried that she was not happy. After a minute or two I can't be sure of how long since the moment seemed fixed. As I worked

up enough courage to speak, the apparition turned her head, lifted her right arm and stretched it out pointing to the pond. For the first time I could

see a few soft features of the side of her face. The light from the flames highlighted her cheek bone, jaw and chin. This woman was Native American, maybe Ho Chunk or Potawatomi. I don't know the history of these two tribes, only that these were prevalent in the state two hundred years ago.
I looked in the direction she pointed in and my eyes flashed back to her, not wanting to lose her image to the blackness of the night. I think this thought scared
