Altona, Illinois Ghost Tales


One may assume that there's nothing extraordinary about Altona, Illinois, but this settlement has terrifying mysteries concealed in the shadows. Some of the deceased refuse to stay in their graves in this town. People who have never stayed overnight in this town will surely tell you it's all myths, but the phantoms of Altona are out tonight trying to find a person to terrify.

The spirit of a civil war warrior has from time to time been made out at a pay phone in Altona talking on the phone.

The phantom of a seriously burned lady has purportedly been seen on several instances chatting into the thin air in Bishop Hill Historic District very late at night. A resident claims that this phantom is the tormented spirit of a former Altona local.

The phantom of a train driver may once in a while be noticed drifting along Dugout Creek at night.
