I woke up my husband and he went down the stairs. He said he found dried blood under the stairs. I freaked out and ran out of the house. The next morning I had the landlord look under the basement stairs. She said that she did not find anything. She then disclosed that two little girls had been killed and hidden under the basement stairs. We     packed up and left the next week never to return. Although we had wandered through rooms upstairs, we later heard footsteps echo loudly from the second floor, and a whoosh! of dank air drove us back in terror when we opened the door to the basement stairs.
