Chicago, Illinois Ghost Tales | |

Back in Chicago, where I once resided with my family in my younger years, I recall living in a small house, broke down if you will. The address was... well, maybe it's better that I keep that disclosed. Anyway, I remember once asking my mother about the attic of the little house, in which case she would always turn my attention away from the subject with some kind of distracter. However, I never forgot. So, one day, I went to the back of the kitchen, up the back stairs, and entered the attic... and it was quiet horrible. I can still smell the rotting wood from all the rain water that leaked through the roof and into the house. It was dark, too... very dark... The only real light I had was the light shining in from the open doorway and the small crevices in the floor boards. The whole cramped space was like some kind of time machine... the room had a heaviness in the air, in which case it kind of gave everything that black and white look. All of this is still etched into my mind... because, to be absolutely honest, it scared the living c***

out of me! In the middle of the room stood the apparition of a man, clothed in a stained train conductor's uniform. His hair was a bit messy and dirty, but he it complemented his rugged face. I didn't really understand what I was seeing... so I just kind of stared at him, wondering what a man was doing in the attic. The dusty boxes around him and

the darkness about the room didn't really seem to match his likeliness... he didn't belong there at all. I snapped back into reality when he addressed me, however, ''Where's my cap, son?'' It wasn't very threatening, more like a question, but it still scared me that he talked to me. So I ran down the stairs and locked myself in the only bedroom in the house. When my brothers came home, I told them about everything that happened and they investigated... of course, they never found anything. They checked with flashlights and even went to the extent of letting the dog into the house. Nothing was ever found... and I still find myself wondering why that ghost was in the attic... had he been killed their? Or maybe that was once his residence... I'll never know... .
