This is actually about Oakbrook Terrace, but there's only Oakbrook on here, where Butterfield Road and North Avenue split. A ghost walks on the side of the road. It is a shadow person that's pretty big. My two co-workers had seen it many times. I had never seen it. It's by the Commonwealth Edison building. There's no sidewalk or even shoulder of the road, and this thing walks about 3 am. A car went off the road one night and slid through the lawn. We think
that maybe they had seen the entity and freaked out. Usually 3 am which is the witching hour! Not midnight! 3 that's when most things happen.

I saw a woman in 1999 in the parking lot at a convenience store. It was during broad daylight, and she walked by my car and stopped and just stared at me. I know it would seem that this was just some ordinary person, but the woman was probably between eighteen to twenty-three years old. She had brunette hair. She looked like she could be my wife's twin sister (I am divorced now) - which is why I initially froze. I literally was about to call her name and ask what she was doing there dressed in some old woman's clothes. I realized she was not my wife. I thought I was losing it. My eyes had to be playing tricks on me, but Christ! she had her frame and her face, just not her hair style. This lady's hair was up in a bun with some wisps of black hair flowing a bit out of a scarf. She had another scarf around her neck. Her coat was something out of the 1940s. Everything about her was from that time period. If I had to guess her background I would say Argentine. This is because my ex-wife is of the same descent, arguably as many Argentine women uniquely appear Mediterranean - so did this young lady.

Why could I not speak to her? I believe I was transfixed. She said nothing but stood there and stared into my car at my face. She scared me to death. Why would I be so afraid? Why was she looking at me? What was it about me that made her look at me just as I had been looking at her? I would not have even seen her in the first place, had she not stopped to look in my window. If I could describe her expression, I would say it looked as if she had seen a ghost - me as a ghost. She was beautiful. All fears aside I thought it was my wife. As insane as that sounds, the expression on her face told me it was not. Imagine seeing someone you saw every day, but because of a different expression you somehow knew this was not that person. Only the expression was different, or in this case one of shock but nonetheless. Yet something else was not quite right in her eyes. It was as if two black orbs stared back at me - lifeless. I could not move. She walked away suddenly and briskly only looking back over her shoulder one time as she walked around the corner of the building. I got out of my car and said ''wait,'' but nothing came out of my mouth (no explanation). As she walked around the corner of the store to go up to the train, I jogged over to where she had peered back at me. It had to have been only a handful of seconds, and I was there, and she was already gone. Vanished!
