Mount Carmel, Illinois Ghost Tales I have lived in 2 old Victorians on Cherry Street. Both definately had paranormal activity. In the first one , at least 7 different spirits visited at different times. 5 calm spirits and 1 seemingly irritated one all came into one of the bedrooms one night during a sleepover scaring several people half to death. The upstairs room had a menacing feeling most of the time and was difficult to sleep in. The bed shook on it's own in the middle of the night on 2 occasions. A large, dark thing was seen in this room too. It was peering over the edge of a girls bed. Strange noises such as whispering and scratching was often heard by residents and visitors.More spirits were seen several times drifting in and out of the dining room. A figure with a skeleton face sporting dark robes may repeatedly be witnessed going berserk beneath a lamppost in Mount Carmel.   Several of the people who live here declare this ghost enjoys frightening foolish folks who come seeking ghosts in Mount Carmel. A woman with a machete in her head can be witnessed frequently laundering a bloody scarf in Grand Rapids before dawn. If you listen to the local residents, this spirit may be a celebrated old days resident of Mount Carmel. A drifting phantom has from time to time been made out by Hanging Rock trashing a book. Well, it's a menacing ghost that should be shunned. The ghost of a young-looking Indian warrior is sometimes observed attempting to dump a cadaver in Broad Pond in the early morning hours. In any event, it sure is a chilling phantom that is better not disrupted. The spirit of a sturdy lumberjack clutching a sizeable axe has allegedly been perceived on a handful of occasions staring at the water by Wabash Valley Club Conservation Lake Dam in the early morning hours. A chilling skeleton can every so often be seen in Beall Woods Nature Preserve on a dark night concealing a corpse by a big rock.
