On June 5, 1942, a large explosion on the assembly line at the Joliet Arsenal resulted in 48 dead or missing and was felt 100 miles away. During the Vietnam War, the Joliet Arsenal was renamed Joliet Army Ammunition Plant. The ''Elwood unit'' reopened in 1966 and produced artillery rounds, supplementary charge assemblies, and cluster bomb units. The ''Kankakee unit'' reopened in 1965 and manufactured TNT until 1976. I was working as an office worker at the other section of the plant (Kankakee unit) where they made the TNT. Each morning at 8 a. M. , I had to teletype to U. S. Government the amount of TNT produced the day before.
In the summer of 1972, as I was driving towards Joliet on Route 53 (old U. S. Route 66) just north of Wilmington, I saw a ''puff of white'' fly above the 4-lane highway directly across from the Joliet Arsenal (Elwood unit) to my right. I always felt it was one of the ghosts from that big explosion. There was no fog or puffy smoke or unusual weather when I saw that ''puff of white'' which was the size of a person. .

Kind of a weird story, umm I was in the shower, lets just bring it to that. About 9 pm and the house was quiet. There was a window behind the shower but it was like blurred, and through it I saw the white shape of a head.
Looked like an old lady cause of the hair and the way she stared. It was all white and I was paralyzed. I looked away slowly and then turned back and it was gone. I looked up all the history of the house and there were no reports of female deaths in the area and there was no one outside in the backyard.
