Leavenworth, Kansas Ghost Sightings - PAGE 10
(...continued from the previous page)|
Well about 2 years ago me and my family were talking and having a ball in our house when we started making jokes of ghosts. Then are back door flew off it's hinges and hit our freezer when we looked no one was there.
And about 1 year ago I told my step-mom that my closet was smelling of a profuse odor then she spirits the closet with holy water and the odor gets so strong I can't stand it then whenever I pass it I get this uneasy feeling
of terror that someone's watching me.|
So I just keep my distance.

At the University of St. Mary, there have been many sightings of the ''headless nun'' over the years; each tale always different. She is said to be mostly around hallways, staircases, and tunnels. In the late 1800s, a young sister at the old St.Mary's Academy fell in love with a handsome stranger, and she would to slip out to meet him at night. One night she was discovered and was confined to an attic in saint Mary hall so that she could not sneak out to meet her sweetheart.According to the legend, she died of a broken heart and her body was not discovered for many years. It is said that soon after the discovery of her mortal remains; students in the academy began to receive late-night visitations from a ghostly presence. The spirit was dressed in religious garb but headless and she drifted down from the attic, down the spiral staircase, and into the fourth floor dormitory ever searching for her lover. Through the years, saint Mary students have reported sightings of the headless nun in other parts of campus, particularly in the tunnel that connects saint Mary hall and the chapel.Another version: a young novitiate, who lived on the 4th floor of Mead hall, had fallen in love with someone working on campus and she hid her Street clothes in the attic in preparation for the night they would run off together. The night for their escape arrived. She dressed in her Street clothes. Around her neck she wore a red scarf, which had been a present from her lover. As she raced down the winding staircase from the attic, the trap door fell, caught her scarf, and she died as a result. One more version: it takes place in the underground tunnel between berchmans hall and miege. A convict who had escaped from one of the local prisons snuck his way onto campus. He took an emergency fire axe and hid in the tunnel. When a young nun headed down the same tunnel, he cut off her head and ran. There is a red stain on the stairs that some say is her blood that would never wash away. The ''headless nun'' ghost stories were started in the 1800's and have changed over the years. Most of the stories involve a read scarf and/or a secret lover. .

Comment by Daniela: There are many stories. I worked for the nuns there and took care of them. It is haunted but nothing but good spirits :).
