Tonganoxie, Kansas Ghost Tales No sightings but when I was about 12 years old we lived in an old farm house between tonganoxie and jarbalo on what is now 219th. street.  it was on a summer night, hot and sweaty and wide awake and old houses do make some funny noises but on this particular night I heard what sounded to be footsteps and everyone was in bed and I counted the 12 steps from the bottom floor to the landing and then two more steps up to the top of the landing and the 6 steps down to my room.  about that time I was scared to death and jumped up out of bed, yelled and turned on the lights and absolutely no one was there.        my sister used to walk in her sleep in the same home.  my mother would find her downstairs in the kitchen, take her back to bed and she would remember nothing about it.  also used to hear strange sounds   outside the home.  the home was owned by a family named enoch but was previously occupied by bud shoemaker, his wife, leo and steve shoemaker who I think are now in the auctioneering business.  we have lived in lancaster, california for 50 years now but I will never forget the fear I had for that old house. . A female's body with a lizard's head has every now and then been distinguished at Cow Creek at the stroke of midnight hurling pieces of wood into the stream. One thing is for certain, this spirit sure is chilling; one that you shouldn't go looking for. A fairly decayed human body has been said to have been made out on a handful of instances in Leavenworth County State Park in the early morning hours dragging a corpse across the dirt. One of the locals determinedly alleges that this ghost may be a well-known old days local of Tonganoxie. In any case, this is a horrible spirit that should be steered clear of. The phantom of a planter having on a worn straw hat can every so often be spotted in a supermarket in the Tonganoxie area. A number of of the people who live here claim this phantom is the stressed spirit of a long forgotten Tonganoxie person who lived here. No matter what, it is certainly a terrifying ghost that is rather not messed with. A youthful girl in a blood-covered wedding gown has repeatedly been perceived crawling out of a manhole on a Tonganoxie residential street at the stroke of midnight.
