The first time it happened I thought it was my 4 year-old so I went to punish him and put him back to bed. However when I got to his bed he was sleeping like a rock. Pretty much anytime I was alone (or the only one awake) and it was pitch-black in the apartment I got extremely paranoid and scared and could almost feel something watching me.
I'm in no way scared of the dark (I prefer it actually - it's rather peaceful) but living there was the first, last,

and only time since I was a young child that I could honestly say I was scared of the dark.

When I lived in Topeka in the 90s I used to always see a man walk past my window at around 9:30 pm some nights. It was a bit creepy that he would sneak around my apartment that way so I decided to confront him about it.
The next time I saw him I ran outside but he was gone. So I decided to take a picture of him maybe my neighbors would know who he was. The next time he came by I had the camera ready and I took his picture.
When I had the film developed (this was before digital) nothing showed up. It was a clear picture but no man in the picture. After that he never showed up again.
