away in 1992 long before my son was even a thought. The only way my son knows anything about my Pop is from stories that I had told him and pictures that he's been shown. I'd think this isn't a haunting per se, but we were definitely ''visited'' by the spirit of ''Pop.'' And that made me a believer.

My father moved into a house in the village of Jefferson in 1993. As a child I would visit him on the weekends, and I remember being really scared of the second story. I would always feel like something was trying to grab me right before I started to walk down the stairs. I moved in with my father in 2002. At the time he worked third shift, so I was home by myself at night. The house never seemed odd except for our spare bedroom that no one went into. One night I was awoken by our door to the garage being slammed shut, followed by stomping up the stairs. Our bathroom door that was directly across from the top of the stairs was slammed shut, and then it opened again followed by stomping back down the stairs. At the time I thought that my dad must have come home early, so I jumped out of bed to see what he was doing, but my dad wasn't home. This scared me, and I slept on the couch for a few days after that.
For awhile the house was quiet just that weird feeling upstairs and in the spare bedroom. I would sometimes wake up in the middle of the night feeling like someone was watching me. A couple of years later is when the activity really began to pick up. A couple of friends and I were drawing in my room when I said that I was thirsty, a glass of water that was sitting on my bedside table from the night before slid a few inches. The top of the table wasn't really conducive to something sliding across it because I had made the top myself by smashing stone tile and grouting the pieces in place. Another time I was in our bathroom brushing my hair. I was staring in the mirror, and all of a sudden a small chunk of my hair was visibly pulled away from my head and wound in a circle, as if someone was winding it around their finger. Needless to say, I freaked and ran out of the house. I didn't come back that night and stayed at a friend's house.
Another time I was sitting in the kitchen waiting for a few friends to come over and pick me up. We had this small hard plastic ball sitting on our counter that was dented on one side. I was pacing around (because I'm impatient) and when I had my back turned to the counter the ball rolled off the counter and bounced across the floor. My father would never believe any of this, of course, because he never saw any of it. However, one time he was forced to admit that something weird did happen. We were sitting in the living room watching a movie. There were no huge explosions in the movie, no large or loud vehicles driving by. We both heard this huge crashing sound that came from upstairs. We ran up to see what it was, and my dresser had fallen forward. My lamp and jewelry box and all my things scattered in the room. My father had to admit that it was weird because it would have taken a lot of force to shove something over like that, and it was really odd that some of the things landed so far away from the dresser.
We had this small dog that just died recently, but I remember her acting really weird. She wouldn't go upstairs after I moved into the house in 2002. She would bark, growl, whine, or just stare at the walls and ceilings. She had little dogs syndrome, so I wouldn't say she was skittish by any means, but there were times when she would run out of a room or jump as if something had touched her. Things were constantly being moved around the house. I would set a book down in the living room and find it in the kitchen, things like that. The only place in the house that never felt weird in the last few years I lived there was the main level where the living room, kitchen, and the half-bath were. The basement and upstairs always made me feel uneasy; not once did I see an apparition or an orb or anything that you would expect to experience with a haunting, but I still can't go visit my father to this day and feel normal upstairs or in the basement.
