Harrisonville, Missouri Ghost Sightings
Crazy thing tonight on Walnut and Arnold. The family is gone, and the lights in their house are going on and off. The house is rumored to be haunted. We are stunned and creeped out.|

I lived in Harrisonville most of my childhood, and I actually lived on West Pearl two houses down from the jail. And yes, the whole area is creepy. Some of my most interesting memories are at the yellow house on Mechanic where my babysitter lived. My mom worked nights and slept days, so we spent a lot of time there from the time I was three till I was nearly six. The babysitter and her husband had three children, and they lived there with their dog. The house itself was creepy, but not so much that you couldn't stand it.
We often played in the attic with no issue, but the bathroom with the claw foot tub was rather scary, and nobody would go in it alone. The basement was horrible. We never went down there. They would put their dog down there when other children would come over, but it eventually drove the dog insane; you could hear him screaming and clawing at the door. He became quite violent and mean. I'm not sure what they ended up doing with him. All the kids including me were afraid to be in the backyard alone.
Of course, it's so close to Lords Park; it feels fairly well the same there. I don't understand how anybody likes to go hang out in that park. Anyway, one of my earliest memories of that house is being put to bed in a playpen with my little sister in the dining room. After all the lights were out, and everybody else was asleep I would be woken up by the noises. Keep in mind, I was only three or four, so I had no frame of reference for this, but I swear there was a Victorian dinner party that repeated itself every night. Nobody ever spoke to me or acknowledged me, but I would stare in wonder and be so jealous of the food. It's a vivid memory that I keep to this day.
Of course, I've been in Harrisonville long enough to know that a good portion of old Harrisonville is highly haunted, and some places are far more dangerous than others. The closer you are to the square, the worse things are. There's a big white house that was a funeral home then became a real estate agency not far from the school. I wouldn't go there if you paid me. I had a friend who lived there when I was younger, and that place was dangerous. I have a friend who lives on Halsey Street, and her house is very scary. They tried to have it exorcised, but it really did no good. There are definitely ghosts there that would hurt you if they had the chance and so many more places I could mention but won't.

Comment by Andy: Where is this old white house that was a funeral parlor at? Thanks.
