Me and my friend were at the community center and we forgot our bags. My bf walked us up there and we saw the light flash on and off and we thought it was my bf but he ran up to his and they kept flashing. Then the big mirror fell so we ran downstairs to tell our babysitter and when we went back up to the social hall the mirror was back in it's place and the lights stopped flashing.

Comment by Harrisonville Resident.: The community center is haunted. My wife used to work there. Allegedly it is built on the site of an old slave cemetery according to a mutual friend of my wife and mine who was the janitor there for some time.
One night my wife was closing the center late at night. She was counting the cash drawer when she heard what sounded like someone yawning behind her. She turned around but there was no-one there. The janitor told me that sometimes the lockers slam themselves and that sometimes when the lights were out in the gym he would see flying orbs of light on the TV connected to the gym security cameras...

Comment by Jdc: The community center is built on the site of a home that at one time did have slave quarters located on the property. One of the family members who lived in the home well before the community center was ever envisioned, had passed along some incidents to my dad as they were longtime friends; and yes - that home was definitely ''busy'', which is my terminology for the paranormal.
There were many stories passed around and how many had anything solid to back them up, I don't know. However, the community center definitely has it's own vibe.
Another thing people need to remember is the entire history of this area; including the Civil War (read up on Order No. 11 and why we have a Burnt District - you'll find it's nothing to celebrate or have a festival about. )... The Youngers and Jesse James activity in and around Harrisonville... The orphan trains... The County Home (part of Golden Years) and the original hospital (the ''insane asylum'' mentioned before - - it wasn't an asylum; it was a hospital, a senior citizen's home and then what I would term as being a group home for developmentally disabled and mentally ill patients... But an asylum? Nope.
Lots of stories around here, a lot of energy and activity and a lot of history to add to that which isn't easily explained. .

Comment by Karen: I've seen that light too. I've also heard the story but I heard it was a child that was murdered and she is known to ride her little tricycle in the attic. It was going to be turned into a bed and breakfast at one point but there is a demonic energy so evil no worker will ever go back and the work has never been completed.
