A relatively new eating establishment in South Van Buren is already known for an all-too-appropriate poltergeist. Workers at the eatery have heard whining and scratching on doors, as if a dog was begging to be let inside. When the sounds are investigated, though, there is nothing to be seen. Some employees swear they have seen reddish eyes glaring back at them out of the darkness.

Canoeists venturing on the river late in the evening have reported becoming disoriented and briefly perceiving

themselves as being on a different stream. Dark, indistinct shapes have been seen watching from the bluffs above, only to disappear when approached too closely.
