I went to the Liberty cemetery in the day time to visit a family grave. There was no wind blowing, and it was a nice day. I put flowers on the grave and started going back to my car. I looked up at the old church windows which are covered with heavy shutters. I was so frightened as the shutter opened, and a large demonic face appeared in it. I did not run but wasted no time getting to my car. The face was so horrible that I still have nightmares about
it. The shutters slowly closed as I locked my car windows and preceded to drive away. I will not return to this horrible place nor allow my family to
do so. I believe demons are there night and day!.|

I am a resident of Elton and have lived here since I was ten. Most of the stories of ghosts and hauntings are just wise tales that grandpas tell to play jokes on their grandchildren, but there are some truths to some of the stories. Liberty Cemetery which is just south of U. S. Highway 190 on Liberty Cemetery Road is indeed haunted. I know people who have been in the church building at Liberty Cemetery at night. They caught pictures of a ghostly mist, almost like a fog, that they couldn't see with their eyes while they were there. There have also been several reports of ghosts in Liberty Cemetery. However, don't assume that every story you hear is true because I've heard more about people playing pranks in Liberty Cemetery than of any actual ghosts.
Easily, the most haunted place in or near Elton is the Coushatta Indian Reservation which is several miles north of town on Powell Road. The reservation is not a safe place at night especially if you are on foot, even if you are not alone. There have been reports of these creatures that live in the woods on the reservation, the Coushatta call them The Little People. They are said to take away and do things, the things differ with who you ask, but none are good, to any found in or near the woods at night, especially when there is no moon. Most non-natives do not really take this seriously. I am white, but I am very superstitious, and I see how serious some of the natives are about this. They are not usually seen in or near the woods at night and never alone at night. Some of the Coushatta are legitimately frightened by The Little People and will warn you to stay away from the woods at night, especially if you are alone.
