People who have never spent the night in this town will surely tell you it's all just superstition, but not all the inhabitants of Maringouin are breathing. These are some of the spooky things that have happened here recently. A moderately translucent guy outfitted as the captain       of a boat is known to have been witnessed on several occasions trying to dump a body in Greeves Swamp very late at night. A big terrifying ghost may from time to time be noticed watching cable in a Maringouin living room at night. One of the folks who live here confidently says that this ghost is the ghost of a visitor that was killed while   passing through Maringouin in the past. The spirit of a young-looking gentleman having on a confederate uniform was noticed dragging a cadaver from the ice cold water of Bayou Black late at night. Other people close at hand have had identical sightings involving a similar phantom. Some of the folks who live in this town assert this phantom is that of a resident who existed here in Maringouin long ago. The ghost of a strapped up gentleman emerged in Atchafalaya National Wildlife Refuge before sunrise hiding a body by a sizeable rock. This is one of those ghosts that is seen repeatedly in close proximity.
