I've read that the Lafitte brothers were known to be around in the areas. People who lived or travelled in these areas felt unsecured. Beware of your surroundings.

I lived in New Orleans about twelve years ago and have heard the story about the elderly black man in the tattered coat with his felt hat. The way I heard it was that the elderly man lived with his daughter after his wife died.
He was very depressed after losing his wife and never got over her death. He would take long walks to think about things. One evening he was ran over and killed by a car or a horse and buggy. I was just a kid when I heard the story and it always made me so sad that I almost cried.|
