Ville Platte High School founded around 1885, this place at the time was called Evangeline Academy. This was the 3rd oldest school in the region. The school was founded off of Catholic belief. During that time you had to be Catholic to attend this school. The school building of Evangeline academy was 1 story high and had no more than 15 classrooms. This was not a private school or a public school. This was known at the time as Christian belief

schools. Then in 1908 the school remodeled and the new building was 2 story high about 30 classroom. Then when Evangeline parish was founded in 1911,

this school name was changed to Ville Platte High School.
With this great change the school became into the 2nd oldest public faculty in now developed Evangeline parish with the 1st oldest school in Bayou Chicot LA. Though both schools are the oldest they are haunted too! Ville Platte High School is said to be haunted by a construction worker who was killed in building the 3 story high building on VPHS in the 1940's. They have dropped the ceiling
