Avant, Oklahoma Ghost Tales The ghost of the elder Mrs. Forbes, who lived for many, many years in the blue house at the corner of Main and Grand still haunts the dwelling. My parents own this property today. While I was away at college my parents rented this property. One renter lived there for two days, and then abruptly moved out, claiming that she saw a woman's ghost. She described Mrs Forbes to a tee. This renter was not from Avant nor would have had any dealings with Mrs. Forbes to know her description. Another renter shortly thereafter claimed that they kept on hearing noises coming out of the back room, which used to be a garage. I remember delivering meals to Mrs. Forbes when I was in grade school through the senior citizen's center. I know from these and other meetings that Mrs. Forbes did a lot of canning in the garage. My husband and I lived in the house briefly during the first part of our marriage. We also heard lots of loud noises coming out of this back room. My husband was scared stiff, but myself, knowing whose ghost it was,       was not disturbed at all. The noises did get quite loud, however, and often kept us awake at night. One night I had enough of the noise. And, it may sound strange, but I decided to address Mrs. Forbes as if she was alive and physically present. I walked into the kitchen; the noise stopped. I said out loud, and in the direction of the old garage   door, ''Mrs. Forbes, we know you have a lot of canning to do, but we are really tired and the noise is keeping us awake. We don't mind you doing your canning, but if you would please, could you do it just a little quieter? Thank you Mrs. Forbes. Good night. '' Ironically, after that saying into the kitchen air, we never heard another loud noise coming from that back room again. .
