Duke, Oklahoma Ghost Tales | |
|
Victory, Oklahoma never was anything more than just a small community with farm families, and the 'Victory Boy's Home' was located there for many years. The last 40 years have not been kind to Victory, Ok. because most of the people are now dead and buried in the old Victory cemetery just off highway 62. The ghost of an elderly woman with bushy eyebrows has been observed near the gate of the old cemetery. Late one night a farmer stopped at the gate and asked her if she needed help because he would drive her any place she wanted to go. She slowly shook her head no, and then asked him, ''do you know where my two little dogs are''? Then she disappeared right in front of his eyes. While he was sitting there in his pickup trying to figure out what he had just witnessed he could hear two small dogs barking near the gate, but could not see them. He then sped away without once looking back. He still has to drive by the cemetery often, but refuses to look in it's direction at all. Submitted by Lester R.

dusty little farming town in southwestern, Oklahoma, but there have been many strange stories passed down about the little town through out the years. When Duke was getting established as a town many years ago, an elderly Indian said that the town was constructed on land that was already owned by little people. The elderly indian's story was soon shrugged

off by everyone. As many years went by the story was told over and over as a joke, and especially at Halloween. Some teenage kids had reported seeing small leprechaun like people running across country roads several times, and an elderly lady told of little people playing among her flowers. Those stories were also laughed off by local people. Then about thirty years later a local farmer found some small caves on his land. The caves were small enough that he had to crawl in order to see inside them. He could tell that tiny camp fires had been in the caves at some time. And then he found five mummified little people about a foot tall in one of the caves. Word spread fast around the Duke community, and it was decided to just leave the small mummies where they were out of respect for the Oklahoma little people, and the indian tribes who still live in Oklahoma. I like to think there may still be little people out and about in Duke, Oklahoma doing whatever they enjoy most. Submitted by anonymous
