Headrick, Oklahoma Ghost Tales

There was once an old french style farm house four miles west of Headrick, Oklahoma. It was home to a family of six. The house was large with a great amount of room for the entire family, but strange things were always happening in and around the house and the other farm buildings. One night the family was getting ready for bed, and the lady of the house opened the door to the master bedroom to find a cowboy holding his hat in his hand sound asleep on the bed. She screamed and ran out of the room as fast as she could. A few seconds later her husband ran into the room, but could find nothing, and it appeared the bed had not been used either. Then the little five year old girl stopped sleeping in her bedroom because she was scared. The little girl told her parents she would wake up late at night to find the ghostly figures of a man and a dog next to her bed. When spring arrived two fires started in the attic of the house just eight days a part. The attic was well searched and checked over, but it could never be determined what caused either
of the fires. One night the man of the house was awakened by the barking and growling of the farm dog, and so he grabbed a flashlight and his rifle to see what the dog was upset over. The farmer saw the tall dark figure of a man wearing a cowboy hat open the barn doors and enter the barn. The farmer had a small collection of antique cars in the barn
and decided to see what the cowboy wanted. The farmer searched the barn from top to bottom, but could not find anyone there. One day soon afterwards the twelve year old son was playing under a large cottonwood tree in the backyard, and found an old rusted pistol from the 1800's under about three inches of dirt. A few weeks later after some heavy rains the front yard and the backyard was home to frogs that seemed to come from nowhere. Soon afterwards the family moved off the farm. Several times other families would try to live there, but would move in just a few short months. In the late 1950's the house and farm buildings were torn down, and now there is nothing there but a wheat field. .

The railroad tracks at Headrick, Oklahoma is reputed to be haunted. In the early 1950's two teenage boys were walking on the railroad tracks just west of Headrick with shotguns to do some rabbit hunting. One of the teenage boys happened to trip on the railroad tracks causing his shotgun to fire. The shot hit the other boy in the head
killing him instantly. On early foggy mornings just before sunrise the ghostly figures of the two teenage boys can be seen walking the railroad tracks talking and laughing. The ghost of a little girl about eight years old is sometimes spotted on the same railroad tracks running and crying. It is believed the little girl may have died from being hit by a train many years ago. .
