Konawa, Oklahoma Ghost Tales | |

I grew up in Konawa and had a friend that lived about the equivalent of a couple blocks away from the sacred heart church. Often times when I would visit her, we would walk down to the mission ruins and sit in the old bakery. We would encounter strange feelings, cold winds from nowhere, and sometimes hear footsteps in the grass that sounded like a person walking toward us but never reaching us. You get very spooky feelings out there day or night. But we were used to it. Over the past ten years following that, I would tell my friends about that place and they would always have me take them there. On one encounter, I took my two roommates out there at night. There is a gate blocking so cars can't drive in there. So, in order to get to the mission area, you have to walk a five minute hike down a wooded, one-lane, grass grown, dirt road, which is creepy day or night. We walked back there, and I took them around a bit. We heard someone walking up behind us, so we turned around and shined our flashlights and didn't see anyone. We decided that was

enough for us and started walking towards the entrance. We heard it again while walking down that road and we upped our pace. It sounded like it was running toward us, so we started running. We got to the car, hopped in and locked the door. The car was facing the direction so as soon as I locked the door I turned on my headlights and saw no one. We

sped out of there and that is the last time I went out there at night. About six years after that, I took a friend out there (in the mid day) because he to was intrigued by my stories. I took my camera with me and was going to take pics of the remaining buildings out at the mission. I stood in front of the old bakery and was trying to perfectly center it. Just when I snapped the picture, I heard ''get the f*ck outta here!'' It sounded like it came from behind the bakery, but I knew no one was there because I just walked around the building taking pictures of it and the trees are too far away for someone to be hiding behind them and I still hear it as clearly. We looked around for the person who said it for about twenty minutes. We never found anyone. That was the last time I went there. I plan going again sometime, just not soon. When we was younger my stepfather would tell me stories about Sacred Hearts Cemetery in Konowa, well
|
when I was 16, I finally got the courage to go. Of course the 2 boys I went with talked me into going on Halloween night, that in itself was spooky. Well we were told that we could find a grave of a 1/2 man 1/2 werewolf there and also a old nun/priest graveyard. So there we go tracking into the cemetery, first we stumble upon the old Catholic church, it must of been a hundred years old because the walls were mostly down and it looked like something out of the 1900s.We proceeded in, and it felt like something flew right through me. It almost took my breath away. Immediately I ran out, the boys decided to follow me and we walked a little farther and came upon what must of been the quarters, we proceeded in and like any old good ghost story, the door slammed behind us, so we shrugged it off and went upstairs, the feeling in the rooms were so overwhelming it is hard to explain, so we turned and ran, we ran until we came upon the graveyard. The curiosity got the best of us so we began reading the tombstones, and there it was ''Here lies a true demon, 1/2 man & 1/2 boy'' It was in the middle of all the nuns tombstones. So again, we ran, all the way to our car and sped all the way home. It was days before we could shake that ''spooky'' feeling. I hear that now they have renamed the cemetery to Violet.
