There was a military air base at the corner of hwy 183 south and hwy 71 east. The base had aircraft called phantoms and produced a sound more haunting like a loud whistle in the air as they approach over roads near the base.
One major road called west ben white when approaching under the banister Lane bridge has retain this echo. A reminder of what the aircraft left behind without them flying over. .

This happened about 12 years ago or more. I lived in south Austin on shady wood drive. I was taking a bath while my two children were sleeping, both babies. I heard the front door slam so hard I was startled and was surprised the little ones did not wake up, it was that loud.
I thought it was my husband coming home from work, around nine in the evening. I called out and when I didn't get an answer. I got out of the tub and the doors were still all locked and I looked out the window, my husband wasn't home, scared me.
At that point I knew something was going on. Then later one of my kids about five at the time was sitting on the kitchen floor facing the hall, I had the hall light on and would hear a click and I thought it was my son turning the light off.
