light of my flashlight, I saw weird purple eyes and a dark figure.
My thoughts changed from small mammal to either a large one or a reptile of some sort. Large snapping turtle or crocodile as I knew turtles were in the lake and had heard warnings of crocs. Figuring I had a better chance against it with my denim pants, steel toed boots, and very large knife, I jumped between my dog and it, hoping my size would blend with the size of my dog and

It didn't work, and it just made my dog start barking and snarling.
Like I said, he only does this if there's something within a few feet of us. However, he was doing it at this thing, so I knew it was either closer than I thought, or something to be worried about.|
I dropped his leash and stepped on it, so he couldn't run at it. Then I grabbed my light to shine at it. It lit up the small area, and I expected to find maybe a wolf or bear or boar. Either way, a huge blinding light out of nowhere scared them off.
