6th Street off of Church St.

My friend ''Gem'' goes to a Catholic school down in Crosby. It's not that old. It was built around 1948. Now, Gem had told me stories about freaky things that would happen in the girl's cafeteria bathroom. Apparently she and a group of girls went in there and someone accidentally turned off the lights. In the darkened mirror they saw a glowing green orb. They screamed and ran out. Later, Gem and another friend went in there. Her friend turned off the lights. The orb appeared again, but instead it was in the soap dispenser. The soap dispenser started to grow bigger and bigger and bigger until Gem finally screamed, and the other friend turned on the lights. It was back to normal. Of course, I didn't really believe her. Despite my love for fantasy, I had a rational mind and a firm belief. Ghosts didn't scare me at that point. In fact, I found myself thrilled by them, although I didn't truly believe. So I told Gem that the next time I was at her school I would go in there with the lights off.
I tried to convince her to do it the first time I visited her school for an event (a school dance), but she freaked out and refused. It actually scared me a little. I knew she wasn't easily startled (I actually get more scared,) and I knew something was up. Like most children, I too have tried Bloody Mary but nothing happened, except for seeing a little bit of red on the mirror, but I get dizzy easily, and that often happens when it's dark and I spin. She knew that too, so why get so worked up over a bathroom?
Finally the year after that I convinced her. I was actually edgy myself, since she was really reluctant and got two more of our mutual friends to join. So we went into the bathroom and waited for it to clear out. Then we struck. I would be manning the lights which were next to the door and behind a wall. The wall opened up to the bathroom. One girl was in front of the stalls, the other leaning against a sink. Gem had the ''honor'' as the Bloody Mary girl.
The moment of truth: I switched off the lights and listened as Gem's shaky voice changed while spinning in a circle. For a moment after she finished, nothing happened. I was contemplating whether to turn the lights back on since nothing was going to happen. It was pitch dark, and I had the feeling someone was going to yell ''BOO'' and scare me since I couldn't see anything at all. Then the screaming started.
Looking back, I wished I had just turned on the lights. Instead, I made the mistake of poking my head around the wall to see what all the fuss was about. In the mirror were two beady eyes, an eerie bronze glow coming out of them. There was no source of the light when I swiveled my head to look at the wall across from the mirror. It was either coming out of the mirror, or it was resting just against it. It was then that it hit me. I was seeing something that was once part of this world, or never was. I started screaming just as loud and ran back towards the lights, hitting them on my way out. The girls followed me. We ran back towards the dance (not screaming, we were shell shocked) and just collapsed. I was shaking for at least ten minutes. I was terrified and knew better than to mess around.
But I got them to do it again. This time, I did Bloody Mary. I wanted to see if it was just the school girls, or if anyone could do it. This time, the eyes were replaced by the green orb floating over the farthermost bathroom stall. Me and the two friends started freaking out until Gem, who was at the lights, flicked the switch and walked over to the stall. She opened it and beckoned us in, then pointed to an air freshener with a small green light. She said that was it. Everyone relaxed except for me. The air freshener would be blocked by the stall door from where I was standing, and the light was a lot bigger. Plus, it was OVER the stall, not in it. And I didn't see the light from the first time, since you could see the stall from the light switch.
