I was traveling with my girlfriend, and she was driving. Then all of a sudden we both saw a lady in a 1800s-dress and hat, poofy looking red and black. It appeared right in front of the passenger headlight, and it was so quick that she didn't have time to swerve out of the way. We then both realized we didn't hit anything, but we saw something. I always see wrecks when I'd pass. I wonder if someone saw the same thing and swerved and wrecked.|

I used to live in a house behind the current Elkhart Middle School (old high school) which was on Anderson County Road 136. The house was nice but creepy at times. One night while walking out to the gate which was on 136 we got about three quarters of the way there with the gate in sight (clear sky and bright moon) we both froze in our tracks because we both heard the sound of chains dragging across the ground. At first we couldn't figure out what it was but we both had an unpleasant feeling.
After looking at each other, we both looked at the gate. We were both crouched at this point holding each other. We were only 15 at the time. We both saw going from left to right past the gate a dark cloaked figure which looked as though it was hovering and still sounded like chains dragging. The figure was about 6-7 ft tall, and it looked like its head was replaced by a fiery ball of light or possibly a ''spectral'' lantern. I don't know what it was, but it's still burned in my mind.
The land may have a dark history, but my cousin Gracie Ann was hit and killed on 287 by a driver after getting off the bus from school back in the 70s. I think she may have been the spirit in the house. People said they saw a girl, but I never did. I felt a presence but not a bad one. My friend whom I was with passed away later that year under odd circumstances. It was ruled a suicide but their findings don't make sense. There's definitely a dark history to this town. I feel like it's too ''untalked'' about. I don't really know what's really happened here. I've heard several people say it's a black hole and I feel they're right.
