George West, Texas Ghost Tales

I work at the county courthouse, the old Sheriff's annex. I was working by myself one afternoon in my office, had to use the facilities and headed down the corridor past the old ''Drunk Tanks'', (which are now locked up) There is a closet just to the left of the men's room. As I approached, I heard a very distinct sound of a wrench or larger metal tool, drop on the floor of the maintenence closet next to the men's room. I also heard someone moving objects around, as though they were looking for something. After I left the facilities, I heard more noise coming from the closet and what sounded like a metal tool box being slid across the cement floor. As I came parrallel with the closet door, I noticed that it was ajar... However, there was no light coming from inside. I got courious and openned the door to peak inside to see who was working in there. The light was off, and when I turned it on, the closet was empty. It is approximately 5x6 ft. Square, there was no tool box anywhere, no tools within sight and no living person in there. The
court house has been known for years as being very haunted. Old George Washington West, whom the city is named after, and who built the courthouse is said to be seen roaming the second floor court hallways and many people state emphatically that they see him from time to time looking out the windows at night gazing down on them. The third floor is
where the courthouse once housed many of the criminals in the old fashioned jail that still exists there. There is also a hanging ring embedded in the ceiling of the jail room itself. A number of the judges who work here state that there were indeed hangings of murders and cattle thiefs from that metal ring. The trap door that used to open by the hangmans level just under the ceiling ring is now cemented over. A number of cleks and officials who work at the court house, state that they will not work in the building after the sun goes down, they have had personal paranormal experiences and refuse to enter the building at night. Too many people have had far too many un-natural experiences in this building. In its history, the court house has had a number of hangings, suicides by jail inmates, natural deaths, and some report, that work here, they even hear children playing in the hallways at night. .
