Golden, Texas Ghost Tales In the two-story brick building that was built by the Masons and had a secret closet upstairs that locked only from the insidel. Two cats were locked in the building to take care of a rat problem. However, the cats became terrified for some reason and they hid in the space between the floor boards and would not come out for days. Dogs have also been brought into the building only to find that they act very strange when brought up the stairs to the second floor. They were said to shake and cower and stay to the edge of the walls. One owner of the building had an answering machine and would come in to find a message on the machine and when they pushed the playback button, the message was a recording of the operator asking the someone who was dialing out from the building if they needed help. This happened on many occasions. It is said that the first store owner committed suicide while in the outhouse back behind the building.
