Hereford, Texas Ghost Tales | |

This didn't happen in Hereford but it did happen in a Texas town I was just a boy and I was dragged down to the church by my family to a wake that was for a friend of some of my family, the church was very big and we all went wandering around even when we weren't supposed to and I somehow gotten separated from the other kids and got lost and it was somewhat dark in the hallways and the church was very old and I was panicking and trying every door to find my people when I came across one small room stored full of old stuff and junk and was looking around when I heard footsteps and I turned around and an old black man come up behind me and said ''are you lost'' I said yes sir I'm looking for my ma and pa he then replied ''if you follow me Ill show you the way to your family but then I must go, and so I did and when we approached the double doors to the chapel he said just go on in there and you will be ok, I said thanks mister and went on in as he said to do. Most of my family were standing at the casket I walked up there and told my mother

what had happened and she seemed shocked she stepped to the side and I peeked into the casket slowly and to my surprise there lying in it was the old black man that helped me find my way. Chill bumps ran down my spine my blood run cold and I felt terrified for I just witnessed there is life after death.

At the Hereford Country Club, the spirits of an elderly man - lovingly named Mr. Witherspoon, a younger gentleman and a small boy are often seen around the up stairs and down stairs. As well as a younger girl folding table cloths in the down stairs bar area. I was working one day and about possibly 12:30 pm I seen two men and a boy walk past the kitchen; I proceeded to follow them to the dinning room to give them water and take their drink orders. If you have ever been in the club you know the soda fountain is in at the beginning of the hallway. As I was filling the drinks and getting fresh tea another waitress asked who I was getting them for; I told her about the patrons and continued to the dinning room; but I neared I felt an icy chill run down my spine; I was by the stairs so I thought it was only the door letting wind in. I walked into the room to find the men and boy gone with the waters and the men's sliver ware un touched however the place settings where the boy had been seated where moved. I ran back to the

front office and asked if anyone had left; my boss looked at me as if I were nuts. I tried to think nothing of it but as I went to clean the table and get it ready for the next costumer I noticed that the entire table was cold. later that night I was telling a friend who also worked there about it; she laughed and said that it was probably just Mr. Witherspoon and the others she didn't have names for. But she told me that Mr. W had been there as long as anyone could remember and that he liked to I guess make sure that the place was running well. I had became close to the men and boy and by the time I left there I thought of the younger man as Mr. Witherspoon Jr. and the boy as James. however I didn't have encounters with the girl in the lower bar many of the patrons and staff have had terrifying experiences the downstairs; but those are stories that I can't tell. .
