As she told it, one night after dark the family was getting ready to go to bed for the night when the dogs got worked into a frenzy. One of her brothers and the farm hands go out to investigate thinking some animal had come up, only to see that the dogs were barking at what appeared to be someone walking with a lantern through the fields.
