Lockney, Texas Ghost Tales I was a previous resident of lockney. It is an old farming community where many generations of people still live.- The high school gym was built on a burial ground. Some nights if you sit in the stands you can hear weights clanging together from the weight room upstairs. Basketballs will also come out of the rack and bounce and roll across the basketball quart. Across the street is the high school. The high school is 3 levels (basement, 1st floor, second floor). Over 60 years ago there was a fire in the basement where few people died. Most of the basement is now blocked off. One day I had to stay       after school late. When I was walking down the stairs I felt someone pushing me all the way down the stairs. When I stumbled to the bottom I looked back thinking I would see a classmate playing around   w/ me, but there was no one there. There was also a witch that used to live there many years ago. Being a very small conservative farming town, that was not common. She lived in a small house behind, what is currently there now, the high school track. There where reports of pets and children dissapearing and the farmers crops were failing. So the towns people blamed it on the witch. The residence tried to run the witch out of town, but she would not go. So many of the people of lockney got together one night and went to the witches house with torches and demanded her to leave. During that time an aggrivated resident threw a lit torch at the witches house and the house went up in flames. The house burned down w/ the witch inside. And of course, being a small town, people covered is up like it never happened, and if you ask anyone about it they'll just pretend that it never happened. Still today you can see the outline of concrete where her house was. On some nights when you walk to where her house was you can hear terrifying screams coming from nowhere. There used to be a train station in lockney in the 20s and 30s. One some nights, just on the edge of town, you can hear sounds of an old steam locomotive's wistle blowing.
