Nacogdoches, Texas Ghost Tales | |
My family has been in Nacogdoches for over a hundred years. Our family home is what is now the Sig Tau Fraternity house on Mound street. My grandfather died in that house and remains there to this day. I had multiple occurrences with him when we lived in that house (up until 1975). All of the floors in the house were very fine wooden floors, so sound carried very well. I remember as a child my mother playing ''Around the world in 80 days'' on the piano for my grandfather, as he loved that song. One day, my mother left me and a friend in the house to run to the store for a couple of things. We were playing in the attic (which was more like a museum due to the fact that it was filled with generations of my family's possessions) and were waiting for her to get back so that we could have a coke. We don't really know how much time passed, but we heard the piano down stairs playing ''Around the world in 80 days''. Our first thought was, ''Cool! Mom is back lets go get our coke''. We came down the attic stairs and then went down the

second story stairs (with the piano playing the whole time). When we reached the bottom step and stepped onto the first floor landing, the piano stopped playing. You could, however, still hear the resonant tone hanging in the air (the same as if you were standing on the pedal that allows the last key played to resonate). We immediately looked to

our left into the formal living room and there was no one at the piano and the dust cover was down. Remember, we were the only two people in the house. We thought, ''Hmmm, Mom is moving pretty fast''. So we cut through what was then a wet bar area into the formal dining room. This is when we first figured something strange was going on. There was a heavy door that separated the dining room from the kitchen. That door was designed to swing both ways so someone carrying plates, trays, etc... would be able to back through the door going either direction. When someone would go through it it would continue to swing several times until it came to a stop. Now there had been a running joke in our family that if someone went through the door you would stop and brace it with your foot so someone following would bounce off the door. We noticed that the door wasn't swinging, so we naturally thought that Mom was behind the door trying to trick us. We gingerly pushed the door and it opened easily! There was no one in the kitchen. It was at
