I experienced this unnerving event myself while living in a house that was built sometime in the early 1900s. The house was a duplex. It had two bedrooms, a bathroom in between them, a living room, and a kitchen. Both sides of my family have lived in Nacogdoches for many generations. They were two of the families involved in the settlement of Woden, Texas to be exact. That aside, my story involves a duplex house near the cemetery. I lived there with a friend of mine in 2005. I cannot remember the exact months we lived there, but I am sure it was in the summer. My mother was the owner of the house at the time since she had inherited it. I never personally stayed the night in the house due to the events that took place but my roommate often did. I kept my things there nonetheless since the rent was free. My mother had given us various decorations to move in with and one was a small antique light house. We placed it on a bookshelf in the living room next to the entryway. Almost every day, at one time or another, the lighthouse would fly off of the shelf onto the floor. At first we thought the floor could be unlevel, but that was not the case. We would always come home to the lighthouse being on the floor.
After a while my roommate and I stopped staying there and started moving our things out. However, one night another friend and I went to get some things out of the refrigerator because the electricity had been cut off. I was nervous enough as it was dark, so we brought my friend's half Siberian Husky half Border Collie in with us. She would not go into the house. She stopped right at the doorway, cried, and fled. The kitchen was the first room you enter from the back, so we decided to go in anyway even though we were scared out of our wits. As soon as we got in there the refrigerator door opened. We heard noises coming from the living room. Human sized footsteps walking around and then stopping. We got what we needed and fled. We were so terrified. Needles to say, that was the end of it. I never went back at night. I moved my belongings and never returned.
A few years later, my mother sold the house. One more note. After the lighthouse incidents we decided to ask our neighbor who lived in the room next to us if she had ever had any activity like ours. Her eyes shot open, and she told us yes, she had. (I am not claiming any of her story is true, as I was never a witness to any of it.) She told us that her dishes would move from the counter to her cabinet when she would leave. She also told us that once she was bathing and when she returned to her bedroom, her television had been moved from her entertainment center to her bed. As I have said, my family no longer owns the duplex, but I would really like to hear if anyone else has lived there and had any of the same experiences.

My family has been in Nacogdoches for over a hundred years. Our family home is what is now the Sig Tau Fraternity house on Mound Street. My grandfather died in that house and remains there to this day. I had multiple occurrences with him when we lived in that house (up until 1975). All of the floors in the house were very fine wooden floors, so sound carried very well. I remember as a child my mother would play ''Around the World in 80 Days'' on the piano for my grandfather, as he loved that song.
One day, my mother left me and a friend in the house to run to the store for a couple of things. We were playing in the attic (which was more like a museum due to the fact that it was filled with generations of my family's possessions. ) We were waiting for her to get back, so that we could have a Coke. We do not really know how much time passed, but we heard the piano downstairs playing ''Around the World in 80 Days''. Our first thought was ''Cool! Mom is back. Let's go get our Coke''. We came down the attic stairs, and then went down the second story stairs (with the piano playing the whole time). When we reached the bottom step and stepped onto the first floor landing, the piano stopped playing. You could, however, still hear the resonant tone hanging in the air (the same as if you were standing on the pedal that allows the last key played to resonate). We immediately looked to our left into the formal living room and there was no one at the piano, and the dust cover was down. Remember, we were the only two people in the house. We thought, ''hmmm, mom is moving pretty fast''. So we cut through what was then a wet bar area into the formal dining room. This is when we first figured something strange was going on.
