Surprisingly, I hadn't heard a few of these, and I grew up very close to Panna Maria. I have however, had a few very close encounters with ''The Ghost of Panna Maria.''? The famous dark figure without a face or hands. Most people only see him around the church, but believe me, either there is more than one, or he roams the town. The first time I saw him, my family and I were driving from Panna Maria to Helena, and the figure

was crossing the road, I was driving, and drove through the figure! The next time I was taking pictures in the church, and the figure passed

right in front of me, but I didn't get him on film. :( Then a friend of mine claims that the figure chased her when she walked from the church to a house nearby. Some of the locals, mostly the older ones, will tell you that the figure does exist, but many people believe its just a story because of the book by Rita Kerr (1990) Called The Ghost of Panna Maria, because there is an illustration of the figure on the cover.
