The old Caritas building on 5th street is very haunted. My mother worked at Caritas over 17 years, and several employees there have witnessed a man in the basement. He is dressed in all white, with a white paper hat, and black shoes. One lady went down to the basement, and he was standing there looking bewildered. She asked him what he was doing down there, and he looked at her and vanished. For fear of ridicule, none of the employees told the others until one day when a 12-year old girl with Downs Syndrome came to work with her mother. She wandered off and they found her in the basement talking to someone, but no one was there. They asked her who she was talking to. She said the man in the white hat with black shoes. This got them all to open up about their experiences.
This was the old Kellum-Rotan building, which some lost their lives in in the tornado of 1953, next door to a museum, which also received severe tornado damage. Touring the museum a few years later, we saw pictures of the old workers in the plant, all wearing white clothes, with white paper hats and black shoes! Last Halloween, 2012, my husband and I went on a ghost hunt sponsored by a local paranormal group. The basement proved to have many orbs and strange shadows, setting off their scientific equipment. We have a recording of a woman's voice down there, saying ''Help me'' very softly. The same voice says ''Good-bye'' as we are leaving. It made me sad to think someone's spirit may be trapped there, perhaps not knowing they are dead.

Comment by Luke: Might be an old worker that died in the basement.
