This isn't a ghost story necessarily but it is another odd story from the Superstition area. A family friend was camping out in the desert up on a hill that is at the base of Superstition just off of one of the main roads to the mountain (I want to say the name of the road has something to do with lost Dutchman or goldmine but I can't quite remember).
By camping I mean just sleeping in the covered bed of his pickup that he drove out into the desert away from this road. Anyway he was awoken in the middle of the night by a noise that he had never heard before.
He says it was almost like a coyote howl except deeper in pitch than a typical coyote and also with much more power behind it. He claims that he could actually ''feel'' the noise resonate through the bed of his pickup and that it repeated five or six times, each time getting louder / closer.|
Now all of us, my friend included were basically born and raised here in Phoenix and have lived on the edge of the desert our whole lives. We hear coyotes often (less often now than ten years ago unfortunately) have seen plenty of javalina coyotes, burros, the occasional bobcat and have even heard a mountain lion once but he says this was nothing like any of what we've seen/heard before.
I'd be very curious to see if any of you living in the Superstition/Apache Junction area have experienced this or have heard other stories like this...

Comment by JQ: From your description, it sounds like they heard a Bigfoot howl/scream. Have they check out BFRO and listen to the recordings of Bigfoot howls.
