To her surprise the store was going out of business. As she entered the store she noticed that all fabrics were almost gone and at the counter there was no woman friend rather a tired looking husband.
When my mother approached the counter to pay she noticed that the proprieter's wife was sitting behind him staring blankly at the wall. My mother asked why the store was closing. The man simply told her that his wife had become mentally ill and that

it was necisary to go back to California.
I don't know if this is true but what I do know is that the place did frequently smell of rotting corpse

I smelt it myself.
