In the Early '90s we camped one night at painted rocks campground in yuba Lake state park. In the evening there was the odor of a rotting corpse near the pit toilet but in the morning it smelled Only of pit toilet.
Just before Dawn my wife and I lay awake in the tent and heard footsteps walk up to the tent pause and then walk around it and continue down the shoreline. After about 10 seconds I left the tent to see who had been

checking us out.
There was nobody there and nothing nearby to hide a person.
