my car that night.
A police officer found me the next morning and tapped on my window to wake me up. When I went back into the house I found a porcelain tea set that belonged to me smashed all over the floor. I suppose it could have fallen down somehow, but by then I wasn't making excuses anymore. We sold the house, and thank goodness I've never had to live in anything like it since.

In the mid 70s a BYU freshman hanged himself in Budge Hall. I lived on the same floor a few years later and a lot of really freaky stuff happened. Nobody really wanted to talk about it, but apparently the student was named Jeff or ''Jeffie'' and got bullied a lot by other students. His roommate came back from Christmas break, opened the door and found Jeffie dead, suspended from the ceiling. He left a really bad, angry note.
For as long as I was there, the Budge 2100 floor never had a Resident Assistant that lasted a whole semester. They always quit. My first RA confided to me that he had terrible nightmares where Jeffie would visit and tell him ''secrets. '' He wouldn't tell me what the secrets were. He eventually had to go to the hospital because he couldn't sleep, so he quit, but he showed me Jeffie's picture from one of the BYU annuals, written on the back of it were the words ''I'm still here. ''
I had a good freshman year. I mean, we were all a little freaked out about the story, but it only really seemed to bother the RA's. I did notice though that rooms would sometimes get really cold for no reason on an otherwise warm day. The only time I really freaked out was a night when I woke up and had to use the bathroom. I walked down the hall, did my business, and was about to wash my hands when I swear I saw a flicker of movement in the mirror behind me. My skin began crawling. The hair on the back of my neck stood straight up, and I was frozen with illogical horror. I sat for what felt like an eternity, unable to move, with a terrible, indescribable feeling of darkness in my heart. When I could move again I ran all the way back to my room. I'm not ashamed to say that forever after that I peed out the window.
I don't know if Jeffie is ''still there,'' but he certainly made freshman year interesting for us. I've never been back to the Budge 2100 floor, and I never really want to.
