On a Sunday morning, the ranch manager was surprised the laborers were not present for church travel down to the Mission San Juan Capistrano. That afternoon, several hired-hands commented that a wolf or coyote must have attacked one or more of the sheep. There was dried blood soiling the wooly coats of 6-8 of the flock.
The ranch manager and three other men rode out from the pen and barn once located near what is now a near Moulton Parkway
and El Toro Road in Laguna Hills.|
The men rode out to the area of the current foot bridge and the area below what is now Aliso Niguel High School.
They were horrified to to find the body of one of the laborers in the creekbed. They followed trails of broken chaparral grass in different directions. They found the dismembered bodies of the laborers spread out over about one square mile.|
All of the bodies had been hacked apart by some type of axe or hatchet wielded by a person (man) ''with great strength and zeal for such a vicious endeavor. '' There was a trail of broken brush leading up the
