foothills toward Laguna Beach. No one was ever identified nor was a motive ever established.
The search lasted three days and the party believed they found one of the potential weapons in the wash water along side the Ben Brown Golf Course. It was a large rail-splitting axe weighing ''more than six pounds with a 48'' handle ''thicker than the grip of anyone present. '' The Sheriff's statement to the local papers was, ''The man must have had hands
twice the size of most and the strapping sinewy muscles of of a man bigger than anyone had ever seen. '' all of the bodies were taken by wagon to the
Sheriff-Coroner Office and then buried in Fairhaven Cemetery; all as ''unknowns'' because they were poor men who traveled by foot and rail seeking employment and money to feed themselves. I feel weird every time I ride through that area myself about sunset. .|
