at me like he was staring into my eyes. It was weird but honest truth. I have never been able to forget, and I am sure I never will. If there are other people that might have seen similar sightings, please respond.

The following happened in Milpitas Wash south of Blythe, CA. and north of Glamis. My friend and I were deer hunting in late November back in 1992. We'd camped out in the wash about 3-4 miles west of the road from Glamis to Blythe in Milpitas Wash. Saturday afternoon about 2 hours before sunset I followed a game trail northwest of camp for about 45 minutes. I found a Palo Verde with a bush growing under it for cover and settled down to watch the game trail. After about a half hour I started getting restless and checking out the tree. There wasn't much to see, and I noticed the sun was getting low on the horizon, maybe an hour till sunset.
All of a sudden a very large white owl known as a Lechuza in our Mexican culture, flew out of the tree screeching as it flew away. I wondered how I could have overlooked such a large bird earlier. I got up and walked around the tree which wasn't more than 20-25 feet across and true to form very little foliage as Palo Verdes are. I was now determined to find a nest and check for a small owl or eggs. I looked for perhaps 10 minutes then flung a rock into the tree in frustration. Lo and behold 3-4 more Owls of equal size flew out. Well now I knew something was going on just not exactly what!
Well I looked high and low in that Palo Verde for about another 15-20 minutes. Then I fired a round into the tree in frustration intending to walk away. Believe it or not, about 7-9 more owls flew out of that tree, where they were or came from I have no idea. I turned around and walked away to camp. We left the next day and have not been back since. In my culture Mexican-Indian we believe that Shamans-Brujos have Mitotes or gatherings in the shape of Familiars. Perhaps?.

Comment by CML: Yes, they live in burrows that they dig in the ground just below the tree/bush itself. The entrance can be 8'' to 12'' in diameter and can easily be missed as it's dug at a slant. Depending where you stand the burrow can be un-noticed.
