All of a sudden a very large white owl known as a Lechuza in our Mexican culture, flew out of the tree screeching as it flew away. I wondered how I could have overlooked such a large bird earlier. I got up and walked around the tree which wasn't more than 20-25 feet across and true to form very little foliage as Palo Verdes are. I was now determined to find a nest and check for a small owl or eggs. I looked for perhaps 10 minutes then flung a

rock into the tree in frustration. Lo and behold 3-4 more Owls of equal size flew out. Well now I knew something was going on just not exactly what!

I looked high and low in that Palo Verde for about another 15-20 minutes. Then I fired a round into the tree in frustration intending to walk away. Believe it or not, about 7-9 more owls flew out of that tree, where they were or came from I have no idea. I turned around and walked away to camp. We left the next day and have not been back since. In my culture Mexican-Indian we believe that Shamans-Brujos have Mitotes or gatherings in the shape of Familiars.
